Church: Why the confusion?

In the previous episode I shared the fact that church is not the word the Jesus or the New Testament writers used to refer to Christian community. The word they used is the word Ekklesia which is defined as the called-out ones. 

In today's episode we will consider the question: Why the confusion. If the word church is not the same word Jesus used and bible translators know this, then why do they keep translating the word Ekklesia as church? 

I will answer this question by:

1) Explaining how a translation of the bible is produced. 

2) looking at a brief history of how the word Ekklesia has been translated by different English translators starting g with Wycliff's English translation in the 14th century.

I will then also start to look at some important differences between church and Christian community, particularly as it relates to nature, purpose and application.
